Breeding Programme

Welcome to our stud. Our breeding programme focuses on carefully raising pure black alpacas with a strong emphasis on health, temperament, and high-quality fleece.

Our Herd

We are a small, developing alpaca herd with a clear focus: breeding high-quality, pure black alpacas with excellent fleece, strong conformation, and calm, friendly temperaments.

As a relatively new herd, our programme is built on carefully selected foundation animals chosen for their genetics, health, and overall quality. Each pairing is thoughtfully planned to improve fleece density, fineness, and consistency of colour.

Herd History

Our herd began when we established both our friendly companion alpacas and our breeding programme at the same time. From the outset, we brought in carefully selected animals to create two distinct groups within the same herd.

Our white alpacas form our sociable companion “pet” herd, known for their gentle nature and interaction with visitors and daily farm life.

Alongside them, we started our breeding programme with a foundation group of pure black alpacas, sourced from the respected UK stud Inca Alpacas, known for their fine fleece and strong genetics. These animals form the basis of our future breeding plans.

Together, the herd represents both companionship and purpose — a balance of friendly farm animals and a carefully developed breeding line.

The Importance of Conformation

The main goal of breeding up alpacas is to increase fleece production so if we want to hang greater amounts of fleece on our alpacas we must have sound conformation. We believe that conformation is just as important in our breeding programme as fibre quality. Through careful selection we are able to breed alpacas that are highly productive in the following areas:

– Females that grow to 45kg in 12 months, ready for mating.
– Dams that are highly fertile and are able to comfortably wean a cria in 5 months.
– Females that exhibit a good size frame to ease birthing and aid lactation.
– Medium birth weights and selecting against reoccurring birthing problems.
– Males that are fertile and ready to mate at 18 to 24 months.
– Cria that are strong, healthy and grow out well from birth with a good feed conversion ratio.
– Conformational soundness to allow the alpaca to be fit for function.
